US President Donald Trump returned to the White House yesterday, Saturday, cutting short his weekend at Camp David. His administration provided no explanation for why he did not return on Sunday from Camp David as previously announced. However, the White House changing travel schedules during weekends is not unusual, especially for weather reasons, as forecasts indicated it would be rainy with thunderstorms on Sunday in the mountainous Camp David area in Maryland. State Department warns Trump's sudden return to the White House was preceded by the US State Department and a number of its embassies in the Middle East issuing security warnings to Americans. The warnings pointed to "the potential for unexpected escalation," adding that "the Houthis have engaged in hostile actions against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, including against civilian airports." The State Department continued that "this military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly," warning "Americans outside the Middle East to seriously reconsider travel to or through the region." On Saturday night, the US Embassy in Jerusalem warned in a security alert that the security situation in the Middle East is witnessing tension, with the possibility of escalation without prior notice. Lake, the embassy urged Americans currently in the Middle East to remain vigilant, to prepare for the possibility of attacks, airspace closures, and travel disruptions. It also asked Americans to check the status of their flights directly with airlines or through their websites, given that air traffic is likely to be affected by security developments. For his part, Alex Plitsas, national security analyst for CNN, posted a series of tweets at around 4:00 AM Beirut time, addressing the US warnings and Trump's movements, saying: "As I mentioned last night, the US President's meeting at Camp David was reportedly dedicated to discussing and reviewing strike options related to Yemen. Today, US embassies in Middle East countries—which are potential targets for retaliatory strikes—issued warnings in this regard. And now, the US President is heading back to the White House early." He added: "We will see how things turn out; nothing is decided yet." He continued his tweets by saying: "It is now 3:50 AM in Yemen, and sunrise is in two hours. And in Iran, it is 4:20 AM, and sunrise is also in two hours. So if something has been decided, the time window is very narrow if strikes are planned to be carried out during darkness, making the likelihood of them happening tonight less probable." He said: "This could mean postponing it to another day, or it not happening at all. We will see what happens."
